One of the Bay Area's hidden treasures, Lapp has been quietly painting in his Santa Rosa studio for 50 years, gaining praise from fellow artists and critics alike. NATHAN OLIVEIRA has commented that Maurice Lapp's paintings are a reflection of the complicated urban existence that we see and feel. "Maury is an urbane man," said Oliveira "and he lives within this new place that he has painted". LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI, who has painted with Lapp en plein air, has noted that many of his paintings are like Hopper's "lonely for people...it's the picture, it's the scene, it's the way the light falls on them that turns him on"
