Maury Lapp: New Paintings
May 1 - May 31, 2003
exhibition artwork

I have known Maurice Lapp since 1952 when he came to the Bay Area to live from Chicago by way of Mexico City. We have been friends for over fifty years and over these years he has continued to be a painter of credibility. The first works that I saw of his were internalized reflections of what I thought to be Chicago...row after row of block buildings with seemingly thousands of windows, a reflection of the complicated Urban existence that we were beginning to see and feel. He continues to paint the city and these new paintings become a composite of all his experiences within the idea of "The City". Maury is an Urban man and he lives within this new place that he has painted and I can see him there.
