Debra Walker: San FranciscoŚNight and Day
March 4 - April 3, 2004
Reception March 4, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
exhibition artwork

Working from sketches and photographs made while she moves around the city she loves, Debra Walker paints the urban landscape as a social commentary. Her artwork relies on abstract elements playing within the images, reminding us of what it feels like to be standing engulfed in downtown office towers, to be swept away by a vista from Treasure Island, or to feel the excitement as the energy begins to pick up on a Saturday night.

Text is often hidden within the images, which interacts with shapes, color, and texture, creating a message within the message. Underlying concerns about homelessness, hunger, and prejudice can be found amongst the physical world we have built and how we live in it.
