Artist: Jack Levine, Title: Gangster's Funeral
Jack Levine
Gangster's Funeral
1965, etching on paper
19.25 x 25.375 inches
This print derives from a 1952-53 painting (63 x 72) with the same title and subject matter. Levine drew on the plate without reversing the scene, so the print is in mirror image. It was done from memory, even though the close resemblance to the painting might suggest that he had a reproduction of it close at hand for reference. He recalls that he had taken the engraved plate with him to Paris where it was printed by Le Blanc under his supervision. Various publications have erroneously dated this print 1968.
