ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an assemblage artist. Unlike most assemblage artists I use “saved” objects rather than “found” objects in my work. Usually a “found” object was never of great value and had little personal meaning, which is why it was discarded.A “saved” object was one that originally had intrinsic value and over the years gained personal value as well, which is why its owner “saved” it. These objects, often memento mori of a loved one, having been invested with personal meaning, lend themselves perfectly to my art, which attempts to capture an insight into the history of our American culture.
