Maurice Lapp

Maury Lapp was born in Chicago Illinois in 1925. By 1952 he earned his BFA and MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. During this time Lapp studied his painting abroad on a Ryerson Foreign Travel Fellowship and later through a Fulbright Grant. After settling in Northern California in 1952 Lapp began his career of teaching painting at the California College of Arts in Oakland.He went on to teach at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa where from 1956 to present he has influenced many young artists.

Lapp has exhibited at many prestigious galleries and museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum in New York, Denver Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Lapp’s paintings are held in public collections including the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, the Oakland Museum, the City of San Francisco and the City of Santa Rosa.
